Lance Hayward, up until his death in late 1991, played in the New York area for 25 years. A fine all-round pianist who could perform bop, swing, standards and ballads with taste and enthusiasm, Hayward unfortunately rarely recorded and never received much fame. This CD contains music from several live sessions and features Hayward solo, in a strong quartet with the strong tenor of veteran Percy France and three witty duets with fellow pianist
Carol Britto. The fine set serves as the definitive Lance Hayward release. ~ Scott Yanow
