dvsn’s third studio album A Muse in Her Feelings is chock-full of both impassioned longing as subject matter and the sonic touchtones of ’90s R&B, two things that translate excellently to the Chopnotslop practice of slowing music down in the image of Houston’s DJ Screw. At the helm here are DJ Candlestick and OG Ron C, Houston natives who call dvsn one of their personal “favorite dynamic duos.” They’ve taken great care in the handling of A Muse in Her Feelings, re-sequencing the album to account for the new tone of the version that plays at an hour and 15 minutes as compared to the 56 minutes of the original. The DJs provide commentary between songs, as is customary of Screw tape culture, but it’s hard to say something more affecting than they do in the instances they pull back specific lines over and over, like Daniel Daley singing “We can make this work” on “No Good,” turning a hopeful suggestion into a full-on mantra.
