Dean Wareham's solo single , "Anesthesia" (later reprised on the debut
Luna LP, Lunapark) sounds only marginally different from his previous records fronting
Galaxie 500 -- an airy, psychedelia-tinged pop song complete with a superbly lyrical guitar solo; it wouldn't sound at all out of place on This Is Our Music, although the self-conscious lyrics ("You know I try to please ya/You're under anesthesia") anticipate the increasingly goofy wordplay
Wareham more fully explored with
Luna. The flipside "I Don't Care" is a different story altogether -- a collaboration with
the Clean's
Hamish Kilgour -- the song's ringing guitars and propulsive drums evoke the heyday of New Zealand's legendary Flying Nun label to vivid effect.
