Auch, the 12th album by German punk rock veterans Die Ärzte, was released four and a half years after their previous studio record, 2007's Jazz Ist Anders -- which continues the trend of increasing waiting periods between their albums: three years between 2000's Runter mit den Spendierhosen, Unsichtbarer! and 2003's Geräusch and four years between the latter record and 2007's Jazz Ist Anders. Just like its predecessor, Auch was not recorded with producer Uwe Hoffmann, who had overseen all their albums between 1988 and 2003; instead, the band continued its collaboration with TeamTonic (Mirko Schaffer, Oliver Zülch, and Philipp Hoppen), the producers of Jazz Ist Anders. The record goes for a straighter rock sound than its more experimental predecessor and features more songs sung by Rodrigo González than earlier albums. The first single, "zeiDverschwÄndung," an ironic groove rock track that asks whether there aren't better things to do than listening to Die Ärzte, entered the German charts at number three, while the album itself charted at number one in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The record's artwork, overseen by designer Felix Schlüter, presents Auch as a party game, complete with game tokens and instructions, with the booklet serving as the board and the disc itself doubling as a turntable.
