The odd thing about the entry for the
Three Tenors in Universal Music's discount-priced best-of series,
20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection is that it doesn't contain any recordings by the
Three Tenors. Three tenors sing, to be sure.
José Carreras is heard on "O Sole Mio," "Passione," "L'Ultima Canzone," "La Danza," and "Core 'Ngrato";
Luciano Pavarotti on "Mamma," "Che Gelida Manina" from La Bohême, "La Fleur Que Tu M'Avais Jetée" from Carmen, "Spirito Gentil" from La Favorita, and "Chitarra Romana (Roman Guitar)"; and
Plácido Domingo on "Non Ti Scordar Di Me," "Questa O Quella" from Rigoletto, "Donna Non Vidi Mai" from Manon Lescaut, "Una Furtiva Lagrima" from L'Elisir d'Amore, and "Nessun Dorma" from Turandot. All sound wonderful, of course. But on no track are any of the singers heard in combination with the others. As such, this isn't really the best-of the
Three Tenors. It's three intermingled mini-albums of the best of
Carreras,
Pavarotti, and
Domingo separately. ~ William Ruhlmann
