A reasonably good idea for a tribute album,
Boston Drops the Gloves: A Tribute to Slapshot is devoted to one of Beantown's best-loved hardcore bands. Slapshot might not have been prominent in the national consciousness but its impact on the local scene can be measured in the number of Boston bands -- 22 -- eager to pay their respects here. And some of these groups have been pretty well-known on the late-'90s punk/ska scene:
the Mighty Mighty Bosstones,
the Dropkick Murphys,
Anal Cunt, the Pinkerton Thugs, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, 10 Yard Fight, and the Trouble, to name a few. Boston Drops the Gloves is uneven as most tribute albums are, but it has undeniable high points. ~ Steve Huey
