Ominous, desolate, and depressive, the debut release from Finland’s Kypck (transcribed in the Western alphabet as “Kursk”) is a cerebral shock wave. Singing entirely in Russian, Kypck features former members of Sentenced and Dreamtale and projects an austere image similar to Germany’s Rammstein. Lyrically, CHERNO discusses Russia’s tragic history, while the music proceeds rigidly, like a military training exercise. The album was produced by Kypck’s drummer, Kai H.M. Hiilesmaa, known for his engineering work for H.I.M., Apocalyptica, Lordi, and others.
