If you can recall numerous times that your parents told you to "turn down that noise!," cranking up
Chrome in their house may not be the smartest thing. This is because, for the most part,
Chrome is an album of noise. Sure, there are some funked-out grooves thrown in, but lots of this consists of keyboards and the bleeps and bloops that they produce. To think of a hyper version of
Brainiac on uppers may be a pretty close match.
Nice Nice may establish a beat that is rocking steady but it can suddenly be thrown off-kilter, and thus hardly any song is the same. The funk sound of "Cold Sweat, Pt. 16" leads into the blistering loud noise of "Chez Clix," and so it goes. The material here is by no means poorly made and perhaps
Nice Nice is best understood by experiencing the band in a live setting, yet repeated listens of this album can hardly be expected -- except for the most hardcore fans of noise. ~ Kurt Morris
