Between 1970 and 1982, Blandine Verlet made numerous recordings for the Philips label. Her husband Igor Maslowski was an important producer for the Dutch company in France. This edition, which covers the entirety of their legacy, allows listeners to rediscover little-known recordings that have been largely forgotten, despite the reissue of some of these LPs by Philips International in the 1990s.
The two LPs, Duphly & Balbastre, with their breathtaking authority and artfulness, should be rediscovered first. These two Scarlatti LPs take us to the pinnacle of the harpsichordist's art, offering a masterly combination of balance and unpredictability, with an astonishing sense of expectation, suspense and dramatic construction. These are absolutely essential, and not so far from the present-day vision of the likes of Pierre Hantaï.
Most of the Philips years were dedicated to Bach, and this set includes the harpsichordist's first versions of the Goldberg Variations, Inventions and Sinfonias, and the toccatas, to which we can add the Italian Concerto and the French Overture. The little-known years of an essential harpsichordist, finally available to all. Each LP is also available separately. © Pierre-Yves Lascar/Qobuz
