It's hard to figure what the point of this compilation is, other than that it adds another title to the catalog of
Jesse Colin Young's Ridgetop Music record label. The ten-track album culls six tracks from
Young's 1993 album
Makin' It Real, adding another three from the 1982 album
The Perfect Stranger and a solo re-recording of the
Youngbloods hit "Darkness, Darkness." A sleeve note reveals that the tracks "have been remastered and resequenced for superior tone and quality," but that doesn't explain why this sampler was assembled. The chosen tracks are for the most part in more of a rock vein than this eclectic artist usually sticks to, with plenty of electric guitar solos, so those who think of
Jesse Colin Young as a rock & roll star now have their album.
