Deadstar 2 is the long-awaited debut studio album from
Smokepurpp, one of the most popular rappers to launch a career through audio distribution platform SoundCloud during the 2010s. The long-promised album arrived after several delays -- songs from the in-progress work kept leaking, so he had to continually re-record material. Executive produced by
Mike Dean, the album contains more detailed, textural production than
Smokepurpp's earlier recordings. The album's many guest features include
Lil Skies ("Dirty Dirty"),
Denzel Curry ("What I Please"), and longtime friend and collaborator
Lil Pump ("Left Right"). However, a previously leaked track titled "No Problem," which featured
Kanye West, was excluded due to
West's move away from secular music. While the 2017 Deadstar mixtape featured cover art referencing the infamous shock rocker
G.G. Allin, Deadstar 2's cover art is inspired by a photograph of
Kurt Cobain taken two months before his death. Deadstar 2 debuted at number 137 on the Billboard 200 following its release in December of 2019.
