Chicago-based garage punk trio Meat Wave keep things immediate and energetic on
Delusion Moon, their debut recording for long-running Los Angeles indie label Side One Dummy Records and follow-up to their 2012 self-titled album and early-2015 12" EP,
Brother. The group's songs typically pack lacerating guitar riffs and fiery drumming into two-minute time frames, with lead vocalist/guitarist Chris Sutter shouting from across the room about a world gone crazy, touching on subjects including conservatism and soured relationships. The band sounds ecstatic and hypercharged, recalling the gleeful fury of '90s pop-punk but with a tense, angular post-punk edge. ~ Paul Simpson
