The work of
Ryan Moore's Twilight Circus Sound System makes a steady progression from fairly organic dub purism into the world of electronica, and it's really the extreme ends of this spectrum that are most interesting -- albums like
Horsie combine dub conventions with a cut-up sense of electronics that's frequently more appealing than either genre would be in pure form.
Dub Plate Selection seems stuck between the two ends; its use of electronics doesn't mesh with its dub origins quite as seamlessly as on later releases. This isn't a major problem, however; the album is consistently appealing, latching on to a number of effective grooves. The level of polish and consistency of execution doesn't live up to that found on some of Moore's other albums, but
Dub Plate Selection still beats the work of many other electronic-dub projects.
