"Elegant" is not a term commonly used to describe folk music; however,
Hotel Palindrone is befitting of that adjective. Based in Austria, they borrow traditions from European countries near and far. On
Elegance they mold pieces from France, Finland, Ireland, Spain, Austria, and other countries into their own unique style. Instruments like the German and French bagpipes (dudelsack and cornemuse), hurdy-gurdy (drehleier), mandola, viola, violin, clarinet, electric bass, and various saxophones are used to create an eclectic infusion of sounds that are both mischievous and stately -- like entertainment for royalty. Never are the seemingly conflicting styles at odds with each other -- just like the palindrone itself (which reads the same when spelled backward or forward).
