Not to be confused with the '60s British Invasion outfit
the Eyes, this band was a big-haired hard rock/pop-metal unit that was active in the '80s and early '90s. Pop-metal bands like
Poison,
Warrant, and
Bon Jovi were still huge when this self-titled CD came out in 1990, and Curb was obviously hoping to cash in on pop-metal's acceptance by signing
Eyes, a foursome that consisted of singer
Jeff Scott Soto, guitarist Steven "Doc" Dougherty, bassist
Jimmy O'Shea, and drummer
Aldy Damian, and sounded like a cross between
Kiss and
Sammy Hagar. But while those artists had their share of five-star material, this is hardly a five-star album --
Eyes and Curb no doubt figured that the way to achieve pop-metal stardom was to make this album as predictable, contrived, and formulaic as possible. No risks are taken, and a total lack of sincerity defines generic, knee-jerk rockers like "Start Livin'," "Miss Demeanor," and "Callin' All Girls." Nothing the least bit memorable takes place on this CD, which pop-metal fans would do well to avoid.
