Santa Sangre's
Feast for the New Gods follows along the lines of the new-school metalcore music scene started by
Earth Crisis in the early '90s. There are lots of thick, screaming vocals with the rather brutish qualities associated with them. The lyrics are shallow and seem to deal with the typical gory, shocking war and death scenes that are popular with many death metal bands. Musically, the differences between an act like
Santa Sangre and
Earth Crisis seem few, but that
Santa Sangre seems to have more of an emphasis on the drums as opposed to the guitars, yet the thrashing, harsh mix of dual blazing axes are still prevalent. Lots of good mosh parts are found throughout the album as well. In light of the barrage of this type of material appearing in the past few years, however,
Feast for the New Gods seems like just another drop in the bucket. ~ Kurt Morris
