Fram Med Pengarna! starts with "Lived Po Landed," a translated cover of Robert Parker's "Give Me the Country" that became Peps Persson's biggest hit since "Hög Standard" in 1975. But the album, being recorded on several occasions the year before release, is slightly inconsistent. The space is shared between covers of blues and reggae standards and original Afro-pop, but there is not much linking the songs together. The translated lyrics work on the first track but are somewhat silly on the rest, despite the fact that the skill of translating and adapting English songs was one of the things that made Peps Persson famous. Two tracks are attempts at boisterous Chicago blues, a style that Peps Persson used earlier with good results. But here the band, while being competent, seems to lack the playfulness that marked earlier albums, and the tame production takes away much of the edge (as so often in the '80s). The three original songs are brilliant, however, with the title track starting as a slow blues but transforming into a fast-rolling protest song with horns and an African beat. And suddenly all the playfulness and joy missing has reappeared. "Samma Sång" and "Sent På Jorden" end the album with delightful, dancing Zaire pop. These are also much more in tune with the production of the album than the more forceful tracks.
