Using her talents toward making beautiful opera music, singer Lesley Garrett shows off this aspect of her career on the first disc of the two-CD From the Heart. Starting with "Dome Epais," the track that would probably be most recognizable to a casual listener, the CD is a good showcase for her beautiful voice and delicate arrangements. The track selections on both discs are quite well done, as the second album moves on to show tunes from the 20th century. Taking on everyone from Gershwin to Rodgers, Garrett applies the same approach to this material, treating the songs with an elegant touch that enhances her versions of these tracks. To some listeners, this might be a bit on the boring side when all is said and done. But to anyone looking for an accessible and introductory opera album, this is a very good choice that introduces the career of an excellent singer.
