Multi-hyphenate interdisciplinary artist Karen Elson has an appropriately eclectic resume, with music, especially, standing out among her varied accomplishments. Her 2010 debut The Ghost Who Walks, an ambitious album, earned Elson acclaim for its dark mood, broad scope, and country-tinged sound. Green is Elson’s third album and first in five years. Still there is the Americana noir of Elson’s earlier efforts, but co-producers Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk (who co-produced Kacey Musgraves’ Grammy-winning Golden Hour) draw out her spacier side, stretching the often rootsy, compact arrangements of her earlier work. The title track well encapsulates this new sonic phase, placing one of Elson’s more dynamic vocal performances atop an airy, almost jazzy waltz.
