This set of three trio improvisations by pianist
Marilyn Crispell, multi-reedist
Peter Brötzmann, and drummer
Hamid Drake is on the surface a little reminiscent of the
Cecil Taylor-
Archie Shepp recordings of the early '60s, although it eventually gets even more advanced, dissonant, and passionate. The music often proceeds at a deliberate pace and sometimes utilizes a dramatic use of space, but the playing is consistently intense (particularly
Brötzmann's screaming horns) before ending rather inconclusively. The results are stimulating if not essential. ~ Scott Yanow
