Producer
Charlie Peacock takes the helm on
Becker's 1989 studio project, allowing the artist to cut loose and be herself with tunes that display this artist's great ability to rock with the best of them.
Peacock co-wrote many of the songs on this collection with
Becker, lending his considerable talent and influence to the project, and
Becker is all the better for it. From the powerhouse opening songs, "Immigrant's Daughter" and "This Is My Passion," to the soulful "The Hunger Stays,"
Becker proves her worth and staying power in an already talent-heavy genre. Most moving among the set are the timeless "Just Come In," which examines one's own inability to forgive oneself and the need to let it go, while the upbeat "Solomon's Shoes" talks of being reverent of where true satisfaction in life comes from. Ending this set on a positive note with
Curtis Mayfield's interminable "People Get Ready" is the perfect closer to a most satisfying collection that has become one of the many bright spots in
Becker's celebrated and distinguished career. Nominated for the 1990 Grammy Award for Best Gospel Performance by a Female. ~ Daniel Malich
