It is fair to say that this group does not live up to its name. Rather than offering listeners a great deal of fire and passion,
the Exciting Trio mostly creates mood pieces that border on new age. Some of these selections, particularly the lengthy closer "Luttrell," are difficult to stay awake through and certainly do not fit such colorful titles as "You've Got a Mustache and Everything" and "Gramps on the Corner." There is nothing wrong with the players' musicianship but the emphasis on electronics, the lack of mood variation, and the very slow pace of development is mostly pretty tedious. Exciting this isn't. ~ Scott Yanow
