At a staggering 111 tracks, this four-disc set is an audio history of English literature from the early years of Chaucer to 20th century fiction. The collection is very well put together, narrators
Derek Jacobi and John Shrapnel have clear, authoritative voices that complement the material nicely. And the excerpts from the books they discuss are read by wonderful English actors such as
Michael Sheen and Brian Cox. Each disc takes on a certain time period, taking its time in describing the literary landscape of everything from the Restoration to the Victorian Age to post World War II. This is obviously not something that can be easily digested in one sitting, but the layout of the material blended with the sheer wealth of knowledge spread across these albums makes for excellent educational listening. ~ Bradley Torreano
