Park South's collection of
Billy Preston performances, titled
King of the Road, is an interesting concept in that all of these tracks feature
Preston on the organ, and all are instrumental readings of classic covers, such as "Eight Days a Week," "Downtown," and "Stop! In the Name of Love." The recording quality is rather mediocre, but
Preston and the band are in fine form. However, those looking for a good overview of
Preston's remarkable talent should consider either Hip-O's
Ultimate Collection or
20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection on A&M would be much better choices.
