ALBUM

Het debuutalbum van Mika is erg levendig en draagt de passende naam Life in Cartoon Motion. Het borduurt verder op het aanlokkelijke, niet-zo-geheime sentimentele terrein van Elton John en Freddie Mercury, Rufus Wainwright en the Scissor Sisters. Gelukkig worden de juiste artiesten gebruikt en ook de gedaanteverwisselende pop komt goed en eerlijk over, genoeg om als eerbetoon gezien te worden in plaats van als diefstal of een slap aftreksel. In slechts weinig meer dan drie minuten levert "Grace Kelly" de tapdansritmes en de filmdialogen, horen we pianospel van Elton, de vocale harmonieën van Freddie en het gitaarspel van Brian May. Hoewel Life in Cartoon Motion volop enthousiasme en creativiteit bevat, is er niet veel nuance en zo nu en dan gaat Mika iets te ver en wordt het vervelend. Toch geeft het Technicolor-gevoel van het album een goed beeld van Mika als een jonge artiest.
