Rosemary Clooney's appearance on
Marian McPartland's famous radio show Piano Jazz has some good music and plenty of lively conversation.
Clooney talks about her beginnings, she and
McPartland discuss such people as
Mitch Miller,
Billy Strayhorn, and
Cole Porter, and there is plenty of mutual good feeling. Musically, there is only around 20 minutes of music (three piano solos by
McPartland and four
Clooney vocals, including "My Shining Hour," and a touching version of "September Song") so -- although enjoyable -- this CD is not essential. ~ Scott Yanow
