In 2001, female Philippine artist
Miles Poblete released
Miles Poblete. The album is dominated by easy listening love songs, but unlike many easy listening albums in the Philippines, the songs are distinctive and do not sound alike. The album was produced by respected Philippine music figure
Vehnee Saturno. He also wrote six of the album's ten songs. His compositions are sometimes derivative, but his songwriting here is distinctive.
Miles Poblete has a fine voice, and her performances are charming and entertaining. She misses a few notes on "Aking Mahal" (My Love) and "Muling Hinahagkan" (Kissing Again), but this should have been corrected before the album was released. "Ang Titig Mo" (Your Stare) starts this easy listening album on a firm basis. The song is rooted in a hypnotic minor key, and has a mournful, beautiful vibe. Unlike many easy listening albums,
Miles Poblete also has well-performed, spirited songs, which gives the album diversity. For example, the spirited, "Kahit Na Bawal" (Even if Prohibited), has a nice, lighthearted melody which
Miles Poblete sings with gusto. The song also has some bluesy instrumental fills.
Miles Poblete soars on the song's chorus and sounds strong and assured. Another upbeat song is "Patorpe Torpe" (Too Shy), which has a charming hook in the chorus that
Miles Poblete sings with contagious enthusiasm. The tender "Sana'y Di Na Kita Inibig" (I Wish I Did Not Love You) and "Bakit Nga Ba" (Why Is It) are also enchanting, as is the Baroque-styled string introduction to "Langit Ka Kaligayahan Ko" (Your Heaven, My Happiness). Each song has something to offer. ~ David Gonzales
