For the 1996 movie Swallowtail Butterfly, high-voiced songstress
Chara provided the band. An in-movie group,
the Yen Town Band, was formed to provide music for the movie and the related album
Montage, something of a tie-in soundtrack. With the help of producer
Takeshi Kobayashi, there's an attempt to re-create elements of
the Beatles in the arrangements, and that attempt is largely successful in the instrumentation.
Chara's vocals are somewhat less fitting, but do place themselves into a grandiose setting. ~ Adam Greenberg
