Inconsistency has plagued the career of veteran Dutch rockers
Golden Earring, and 1984's confused
N.E.W.S. opus is no exception. The tracks range from the truly awful "Fist in Glove" to the absolutely brilliant "When the Lady Smiles." Somewhere in the middle, the band serves up some classy, middle-of-the-road '80s rock with "Enough is Enough" and "I'll Make it All up to You," but further musical abortions such as the title track and "Orwell's Year" condemn this album to consumption by serious fans only. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
