The experienced singer
Cida Moreira dedicated this release to covering Brazilian movie soundtracks with her mature, sensitive, and ful-of-possibilities voice. The choice of repertoire was excellent, and included both celebrated and forgotten classics, such as the exquisite melody of
Arrigo Barnabé's "Vocalise" (from Estrela Nua, 1985), "Peseguição" (a lively forró written by
Sérgio Ricardo and Gláuber Rocha for Gláuber's Deus E O Diabo Na Terra Do Sol, 1976), the romantic "Minha Desventura" (
Carlos Lyra/
Vinícius de Moraes), the caipira mineira (Minas Gerais redneck) "Noites Do Sertão" (
Milton Nascimento/
Tavinho Moura), the classic bossa "A Felicidade" (
Tom Jobim/
Vinícius de Moraes, from Orfeu Do Carnaval, 1959), the old
Vicente Celestino classic "O Ébrio" (1946), the lively samba "Você Já Foi Á Bahia?" (
Dorival Caymmi), the folkloric baião "Mulher Rrendeira" in a voice/piano recreation, the bucolic "A Terceira Margem Do Rio" (
Milton Nascimento/
Caetano Veloso),
Chico Buarque's "O Que Será," and "A Volta Do Malandro," and several others. Excellent arrangements and a supporting band complete the picture of an important MPB release.
