Since 1997, Sinaloa's Rene Comacho and
La Arrolladora de Limon have been knocking out killer collections of corridos, bandas, romanticos rancheras, and cumbias.
Ojos en Blanco leans heavily on vocal and clarinet arrangements and less on the band's brass muscle. That's hardly a downside. These 13 tracks show the kind of depth and discipline that come from working together for nearly two decades. Highlights include the two set openers -- "Los Hiciste Otra Vez" and "Te Lo Dije," both soulful rancheras -- and the more midtempo title track. There are a couple of fine dance tunes, such as the corrido "Hecho en Sinaloa" and "Ya Te Perdí La Fe." There are also a few excellent cumbias, including "Me Complementas," "Te Dejo Libre," and the dramatic closer "Confesion." ~ Thom Jurek
