Recording for a variety of labels, including Blue Thumb, Planet, and RCA, the Pointer Sisters had a string of notable hits in the late 1970s and early '80s, most of which are assembled here. At 14 tracks, this set doesn't get into a whole lot of depth, but the essential commercial high points are represented with songs like their 1973 revival of Allen Toussaint's "Yes We Can Can," Bruce Springsteen's "Fire," "Automatic," "Neutron Dance," "Slow Hand," "I'm So Excited," "Dare Me," "He's So Shy," and "Jump (For My Love)." A few things are missing, like "Everybody Is a Star," for instance, but most of the career high points are present, and the result is a pretty fair portrait of the commercial side of this exciting and versatile singing group.
