Whenever a punk band tries to invest a great deal of emotion into their songs, they sometimes walk the narrow precipice of turning the output of their passion into little but three-chord emo whining. While BYO Records is littered with much emo dross,
Manifesto Jukebox emerges as one of the few bands the label has recorded (along with
Leatherface and
Hot Water Music) who can add a depth of feeling to the fast, intense rock that they put out. Like a bucket over-filled with blood, the precious life that resides in the songs on
Remedy occasionally allow intense Finnish feeling to spill out, causing a nasty mess on the floor and becoming a little to shouty for their own good. However, the band's Scandinavian zealotry is harnessed to prime potential on the majority of the album, playing a tight, melodic, and complex rock & roll. ~ Jeremy Salmon
