ALBUM

These are not the original Drifters recordings from their most fertile and commercially successful period (1959-64). Instead, they're soundalike remakes made in the '90s by the then-current Drifters' touring ensemble, plus a few bonus covers of more recent songs like Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover."

Authenticity notwithstanding, if you want all-stereo versions of the Drifters hits this is a good buy. Nobody would ever mistake these remakes for the originals, but they're very well done, and the songs themselves--timeless classics like " Up on the Roof," Gerry Goffin and Carole King's gorgeous romantic ode to working class escape and freedom--are of course unarguable.
