In 1992, Philippine vocal group
the Company released its second album
Six by 6. The group consists of three male singers and three female singers, none of whom play musical instruments. The album's two opening songs "Now that I Have You" and "Muntik Na Kitang Minahal" (trans: I'm Almost Falling in Love with You) are slow, easy-listening tunes, a style quite popular in the Philippines. Things pick up, however, with the dance-inflected "Back Together," which grooves on a spirited backbeat and contains nicely placed horn punctuations (probably played on keyboard synthesizer). The vocal arrangement of "Back Together" and other tracks are arresting and nicely performed, with singing that weaves sinuous patterns. "Huwag Mong Palampasin" (trans: Don't Lose the Chance) features an ambitious, exciting arrangement, and the song swings in a style reminiscent of the American vocal jazz group the Manhattan Transfer. The vocalists take a surprising turn and nearly fade out; the percussion continues and the group gradually re-enters the song. "Ikaw Na Ikaw" (trans: You and You) and "Don't Tell Me that You're Leaving" are slow, middle-of-the-road tunes. The soulful "'Coz It's Over" sounds more modern and once again features an exciting arrangement, containing spirited horn punctuations in spots. "Hanggang Sa Muli" (trans: Until Again) is performed a cappella and features a challenging arrangement. The Company's previous album 'Yon Na (trans: That's It) contains more jazz-inflected arrangements than
Six by 6, which is spaced more evenly between easy-listening and challenging, jazzy numbers.
