This set from Allegro celebrates the majesty and contemplation of Zion National Park in Springdale, UT. It features 11 new age compositions driven primarily by piano and classical guitar, with the usual atmospheric chimes and flutes helping out here and there. "Love Everlasting" is of particular note; its stark acoustic chording is over too quickly, but startlingly effective when played off of the ambient nature sounds and lighter, strummed acoustic duet that follows in "Dreamwheel." The more involved (and synthesized) arrangement of "Summer Rain" isn't nearly as successful as its brethren, and actually works against the prevailing austerity of the collection. However,
Zion finishes strong with another acoustic number. In addition to its audio tracks,
Spirit of Zion includes a screen saver with multiple images of the park's lush green forests and orange red rocky outcroppings. ~ Johnny Loftus
