Sony's budget-line, ten-track collection
Super Hits focuses on
Dave Mason's soft-rock recordings for Columbia in the late '70s. He had only one huge hit for the label -- the soft-rock classic "We Just Disagree" -- but "Let It Go, Let It Flow," "Save Me," and a cover of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" all made inroads into the charts.
Super Hits doesn't contain all of those hits, however: It bypasses "Save Me" and "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" in favor of album tracks. This is a little frustrating for casual fans, but the end result is still pleasing, since tunes like "Split Coconut," "Seasons," and "Show Me Some Affection" are well-crafted songs in the same vein as "We Just Disagree." Serious fans will prefer more comprehensive collections, but casual listeners on a budget who want music reminiscent of the song they know should turn here. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
