Released five years after the perfectly adequate Greatest Hits (and just a couple weeks prior to the premier episode of Being Bobby Brown), this
20th Century Masters compilation is very similar, though it does contain three less tracks. That makes it fairly redundant and inferior, but it is a decent substitute if you can't find a copy of the earlier set. Ranging chronologically from 1986's "Girlfriend" through the hits off 1992's
Bobby, it wisely stops short of including anything from 1997's dismal
Forever and contains
Brown's impressive run on the R&B and pop charts. The only thing that has not stood the test of time is his rap on the
Ghostbusters 2 theme "On Our Own" (though it's even funnier now). ~ Andy Kellman
