A compilation of cuts from two Nashboro albums, this fine set of rousing gospel songs highlights much of
the Swanees' best '50s and '60s material. Included is
Little Johnny Jones's swooping falsetto on "Sleep on Mother" and "Try Me Father," backed, incidentally, by the
James Brown band and Rev. Willingham's hard-edged preaching on "That's the Spirit." Both lead singers have since gone on to pursue solo careers. This features the best-sellers "Sit Down Servant" and "Step by Step." This album was also reissued in the '70s on Crescent. It's an indispensable collection. ~ Opal Louis Nations, Roots & Rhythm Newsletter
