Although with its sparse instrumentation (vibraphonist
Khan Jamal, bassist
Johnny Dyani and drummer Leroy Lowe), this 1985 set may not seem to offer listeners much variety, the wide range of compositions (including
Jamal's "Thelonious" and inventive versions of "Equinox" and "Body and Soul") results in the music exceeding expectations. The interplay and constant chance-taking of the players are also major pluses. ~ Scott Yanow
