The Waiting Room is the first release by Christian rapper
Trip Lee since he and his family relocated from Washington, D.C. to Atlanta, where
Lee started a new church. He also released a book called Rise: Get Up and Live in God's Great Story and went on tour. He describes
The Waiting Room as a mixtape rather than a proper album, designed as a way to get new music out to the public before he completes his next album. The title comes from his observation that his life is like sitting in a waiting room, anticipating God's plans for him. It's also a reference to his time spent in hospitals, as he suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome. The release features guest appearances from
Tedashii,
Dimitri McDowell,
India Shawn, and
Taylor Hill. It was
Lee's fifth consecutive album to chart in the Billboard 200 as well as the Top Christian Albums charts.
