Trip to a Planet Called Heaven's plot to unite the jubilation of social dance music with a Christian message was rarely harassing, but it was never going to win over fans outside
Ultrabeat's own religious circle. If similar acts like
Moby and DBA could get away with indoctrinating dance with rhetoric through sheer force of will or, in the latter's case, a humorously eccentric mixture of pop genres,
Ultrabeat couldn't pull it off nearly as well. They stuck close to anxious happy-house pacing, terrible rip-offs ("Wake Up!" being an annoyingly watered-down take on
Underworld's "King of Snake"), and the feeling that they had diluted both trance and their beliefs instead of finding a way to bring something new to the table. ~ Dean Carlson
