Propelled by clanking, pulsating bass and a considerable amount of post-punk angst, the indie rock quartet Snakes & Music owe a little to one of the genre's seminal bands, Superchunk, though S&M's sound is often smoothed over somewhat by tasteful keyboards. "Take These Pills and Live Forever" skewers rock hedonism, while "5 Borough's" does a similar job on the new arrivals to the East Coast's trendier low-rent artist enclaves, and "Go With You" is, incongruously, a strikingly heartfelt love song.
