Evidently, the compilers of
Ultra-Lounge: On the Rocks ran out of good material on the first volume of their two-part series, since the songs on
Pt. 2 aren't as consistently entertaining as those on the first. Granted, campily comic covers of pop classics by mainstream vocalists is a limited genre, but it's surprising that only a handful of these 22 tracks are entertaining. Again,
Julie London's contribution, "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy," is quite funny, simply because the song and the vocalist are so completely mismatched, but it is one of the only standouts on an album weighed down by a preponderance of mediocre instrumentals. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
