Mario Ortiz's first recorded effort with Rico Records (after seven years) is enough proof to warrant one of the finest popular music orchestras in the Puerto Rican scene. New talent like
Anthony Cruz and
Primi Cruz make their indelible marks, which would lead to their solo careers (and
Primi Cruz's participation with
Willie Rosario) in latter years.
Anthony Cruz's finely tuned voice can be fully appreciated in tunes like "Vamos," "Arrollando va el Sabor," "Los Soneros," and "Yo la Busqué."
Primi Cruz keeps the proceedings with his deft swinging improvisations. "Cuidadito" received publicity in the airwaves, although the salsa scene of the times was undeservedly unkind to great bands like this. The
Mario Ortiz orchestra is always open for a musical reconsideration. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr.
