Named after the first letter of each of the musicians' last names, WWW perform nine free improvisations on this 2006 CD. The conception of the group and pianist
Michel Wintsch is closer to the thoughtful freedom of
Paul Bley than to
Cecil Taylor, making the music more accessible without being any less explorative. The three musicians often seem to think as one even when at their most spontaneous, making it obvious that this is a group with members who have played together often. Drummer Christian Wolfarth is quite subtle, while bassist
Christian Weber is inventive both when soloing and when interacting with the pianist. Intriguing music with the whimsical "Mushrooms and Umbrellas" being a high point. ~ Scott Yanow
