AMANTES SUNT AMENTES, the fourth studio release by Mexican alt-punk band Panda, didn’t just solidify the group as a fan favorite, it also caught the attention of the Latin Music Industry. The album earned Panda three MTV Latin American Music Awards: Best Band, Best Alternative Artist, and Best Breakthrough Artist.
Panda’s admiration for American punk bands like Blink 182 and Alkaline Trio can be heard in many of AMANTES SUNT AMENTES’ singles, including the percussion and guitar-heavy “So Violento So Macabro” and “Estoy Más Sohloh Que Ayer, Pero Menos Que Mañana.” The lyrics and melody carried out by José “Pepe” Madero, however, are never lost among the instruments, and the theme of lost love and longing resounds in every chord, regardless of the intense riffage and pounding drums.
