Tyro's debut album
Audiocards keeps the naïve, quirky pop-punk of Katie and Skipper Hartley's previous group
Toenut, and adds some equally innocent and off-kilter synths and samplers. The result is a collection of sweet, new wave-damaged songs like "Over the Moon" and "Grey Clouds," which sound a bit like
Lush and that dog jamming on old Casio keyboards and guitar. Meanwhile, the electronic interludes like "Remember When We Were Very Young?" and "Audiocard A: LP Convergence" suggest a more experimental side to the group's work is waiting to surface. A strong, if somewhat repetitive debut,
Audiocards signals a promising future for
Tyro if they can balance the cute and challenging sides of their work. ~ Heather Phares
