Body and Soul is
Jon Gibson's most eclectic album, and quite probably his best. From the
Beatlesque "Heart of Gold" to the world music of "Long Ago,"
Gibson diverged from his usual R&B and adult contemporary, which generally aped the trends of contemporary Christian radio.
Gibson has always sounded remarkably like his friend and musical hero
Stevie Wonder, so it's a bit bizarre when
Wonder shows up playing harmonica on a cover of one of his own songs, "Have a Talk With God."
Wonder could have released the
Jon Gibson version on one of his own albums, and no one would have guessed it wasn't the superstar singing.
Gibson received some well-deserved airplay for the acoustic pop number "Father Father." There are quite a few cliches and a fair helping of schmaltz here, but on the whole this album is full of heart and verve. ~ Darryl Cater
