Gerald Wilson's next to last Pacific Jazz release is one of his weakest due in large part to the commercial material. Certainly when one thinks of such songs as "Light My Fire," the "Lullaby from Rosemary's Baby," "Sunshine of Your Love," and "Down Here on the Ground," the
Gerald Wilson big band is not the first group that comes to mind. Although such players as vibraphonist
Bobby Hutcherson, tenor saxophonist
Harold Land, and trumpeter Bobby Bryant have short solos, the overall results are quite forgettable. It is doubtful if this LP will be reissued any time in the near future. ~ Scott Yanow
